Community Guidelines
Effective Date: August 2026 SafeRoute Africa is a safety and community intelligence platform designed to help people share, discover, and respond to safety-related information. Our goal is to maintain a community where information is useful, responsible, accurate, respectful, and safe. By using SafeRoute Africa, you agree to follow these Community Guidelines.
1. Be Responsible When Reporting Incidents
Only submit reports that you genuinely believe are relevant to public safety or community awareness. Examples of acceptable reports include:
- Accidents
- Road closures and severe traffic
- Flooding and damaged infrastructure
- Fires and other emergencies
- Suspicious activity
- Robbery or security incidents
- Protests and community unrest
- Kidnapping or suspected kidnapping reports
- Unsafe police checkpoints or harassment
- Transportation disruptions
- Other legitimate safety concerns
Do not knowingly submit false, fabricated, exaggerated, or misleading incidents.
2. Do Not Spread Misinformation
Do not intentionally publish information that you know to be false. Users should distinguish between:
- What they personally witnessed
- What they were told by another person
- What they believe may be happening
- Information obtained from an official source
Where possible, provide useful context without presenting unverified information as confirmed fact. SafeRoute's verification systems may assess reports using AI, community signals, location information, timestamps, and other available indicators.
3. Do Not Make Unverified Accusations
Do not use SafeRoute to falsely accuse individuals, businesses, organizations, government agencies, or other identifiable persons of committing crimes or wrongdoing. If an incident has not been confirmed, avoid presenting allegations as established facts. SafeRoute may remove content that creates a serious risk of defamation, harassment, misinformation, or harm.
4. Respect Other Users
Harassment, bullying, threats, intimidation, hate-based abuse, or targeted attacks against other users are prohibited. Do not:
- Threaten another person
- Encourage violence against another person
- Repeatedly harass another user
- Organize targeted abuse
- Publish humiliating or malicious personal information
- Impersonate another user
5. Protect Personal Information
Do not publish another person's private or sensitive information without a legitimate reason and appropriate authorization. This includes:
- Home addresses
- Private phone numbers
- Private email addresses
- Identification numbers
- Passwords or account credentials
- Financial information
- Private conversations
- Sensitive personal documents
- Precise private location information
Do not use SafeRoute to expose, track, intimidate, or endanger another person.
6. Location Privacy
Location information is sensitive. Users should avoid unnecessarily revealing the precise location of themselves or another person. SafeRoute may use location information to provide relevant safety alerts, maps, incident intelligence, and other location-based functionality. Users should review and manage their location permissions through the controls provided by SafeRoute and their device.
7. Emergency and Safety Information
SafeRoute is intended to help communities share safety information. It does not replace emergency services, law enforcement, medical professionals, or other official authorities. Do not falsely claim that an emergency service, police agency, hospital, government agency, or other authority has responded to an incident when they have not. In an actual emergency, users should contact the appropriate emergency service where available.
8. Livestreaming / Go Live
SafeRoute allows eligible users to livestream video and/or audio to other SafeRoute users. Livestreams must comply with these Community Guidelines. Do not livestream:
- Graphic violence or extreme gore
- Sexual or exploitative content
- Abuse or exploitation of children
- Acts intended to seriously harm another person
- Content that facilitates criminal activity
- Private individuals in circumstances where broadcasting them creates a serious safety or privacy risk
- Personal information that could put someone in danger
Do not use livestreaming to encourage violence, organize criminal activity, harass people, or deliberately spread dangerous misinformation. SafeRoute may interrupt, restrict, or terminate a livestream where necessary for safety or policy enforcement.
9. No Exploitation of Children
Any content involving the sexual exploitation or abuse of children is strictly prohibited. Users must not create, upload, livestream, request, distribute, or promote such material. SafeRoute may immediately remove prohibited content and take appropriate action, including reporting where legally required.
10. No Incitement to Violence
Do not encourage, organize, glorify, or threaten violence against individuals or groups. Content that presents an immediate or serious risk of violence may be removed and may result in account restrictions or termination.
11. Government and News Organizations
Government agencies, emergency organizations, news organizations, and other approved official entities may be required to complete additional verification. Official accounts must accurately represent the organization they claim to represent. Users must not impersonate:
- Government agencies
- Police or security organizations
- Emergency services
- News organizations
- Journalists
- Public officials
- Other verified organizations
SafeRoute may request official identification or organizational documentation during verification.
12. AI Verification and Community Verification
SafeRoute may use automated systems, including AI, to identify potentially false, duplicated, suspicious, misleading, or unsafe reports. SafeRoute may also use community verification signals and other available information to determine the reliability of an incident. An AI or community verification result does not necessarily mean that an incident has been independently confirmed by an official authority. Users must not attempt to manipulate verification systems.
13. Spam and Platform Abuse
Do not:
- Spam reports
- Submit the same report repeatedly
- Create fake accounts to manipulate community verification
- Manipulate incident ratings or verification
- Abuse reporting systems
- Use automated systems to disrupt SafeRoute
- Attempt to bypass account restrictions
- Deliberately overload or interfere with the platform
14. Illegal Activities
SafeRoute must not be used to facilitate, organize, promote, or coordinate criminal activity. Content may be removed where it provides instructions, coordination, or assistance for serious wrongdoing.
15. Dangerous or Reckless Content
Do not use SafeRoute to encourage dangerous activities that could reasonably cause serious injury or death. Safety-related information should be presented in a way that helps people make informed decisions rather than putting them at greater risk.
16. Manipulation of Safety Information
Users must not deliberately manipulate the SafeRoute intelligence system by:
- Creating coordinated fake reports
- Falsifying locations
- Falsifying timestamps
- Creating multiple accounts to influence verification
- Coordinating false reports
- Deliberately marking legitimate incidents as false
- Abusing community verification
17. Respectful Discussion
Disagreements are allowed. Personal attacks, threats, harassment, and abusive behavior are not. Users are encouraged to discuss incidents based on facts and relevant information rather than speculation or personal attacks.
18. Reporting Content or Users
Users can report content or accounts that they believe violate these Community Guidelines. Reports may be reviewed by SafeRoute's moderation systems and, where appropriate, human moderators. Depending on the circumstances, SafeRoute may:
- Remove content
- Reduce content visibility
- Restrict an account
- Suspend an account
- Permanently terminate an account
- Restrict livestreaming
- Restrict reporting functionality
- Refer matters to appropriate authorities where required or appropriate
19. Blocking Users
Users may block other users. When a user is blocked, SafeRoute should prevent the blocked account from interacting with the blocking user through relevant areas of the platform, subject to the technical functionality of the service. Blocking does not prevent SafeRoute from taking independent action against an account that violates these Guidelines.
20. Appeals
If your content is removed or your account is restricted, SafeRoute may provide an opportunity to appeal depending on the type of enforcement action. Appeals should provide relevant information explaining why the decision should be reconsidered. SafeRoute may uphold, reverse, or modify an enforcement decision after review.
21. Account Deletion
Users may request deletion of their SafeRoute account through the account deletion functionality provided within the application. Account deletion and data handling are subject to SafeRoute's Privacy Policy and applicable law.
22. Enforcement
SafeRoute may take enforcement action based on the seriousness, frequency, and circumstances of a violation. Serious violations may result in immediate suspension or permanent account termination. SafeRoute may also take action where content or conduct creates a significant risk to the safety of users or the wider public.
23. Changes to These Guidelines
SafeRoute may update these Community Guidelines from time to time as the platform, technology, laws, and community needs evolve. Users will be subject to the version of the Guidelines applicable at the time they use the service.
24. Our Safety Standard
When using SafeRoute, ask yourself: Is this information useful? Is it responsible? Is it reasonably accurate? Could posting it put someone in danger? Would I be comfortable standing behind this report? If the answer suggests that the content could create unnecessary harm or danger, do not post it.
