Terms of Use

Effective Date: August 2026 Last Updated: August 2026 Welcome to SafeRoute Africa. These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the SafeRoute Africa mobile application, website, platform, products, features, and related services (collectively, the “Service”). By creating an account, accessing, or using SafeRoute Africa, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree with these Terms, you must not use the Service.

1. ABOUT SAFEROUTE AFRICA

SafeRoute Africa is a community safety and intelligence platform that allows users and approved organizations to share, discover, verify, and receive information relating to incidents, movement conditions, emergencies, environmental conditions, security concerns, and other community safety matters. SafeRoute may provide features including:

  • Live intelligence maps
  • Community incident reporting
  • Safety alerts
  • Incident verification
  • Community verification
  • AI-assisted safety and verification systems
  • Location-based information
  • Neighborhood intelligence
  • Livestreaming
  • User profiles and feeds
  • Safety circles
  • Business or enterprise services
  • Government and news organization verification
  • Other safety-related features introduced from time to time

Features may vary by location, account type, subscription, device, or version of the Service.

2. ELIGIBILITY

You may use SafeRoute only if you are legally permitted to enter into these Terms. You are responsible for ensuring that your use of SafeRoute complies with the laws applicable to you. If you are using SafeRoute on behalf of a company, government agency, news organization, business, or other organization, you confirm that you have authority to accept these Terms on its behalf. SafeRoute may impose additional age or eligibility requirements for particular features.

3. YOUR ACCOUNT

Certain features require you to create an account. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate information;
  • Keep your account information reasonably up to date;
  • Protect your login credentials;
  • Not share your account with another person where prohibited;
  • Notify SafeRoute if you believe your account has been compromised;
  • Use only one account where required by SafeRoute;
  • Not create accounts for fraudulent or deceptive purposes.

You are responsible for activity occurring through your account unless you can demonstrate that the activity occurred without your authorization and despite reasonable security measures. SafeRoute may require additional verification for certain accounts or features.

4. OFFICIAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL ACCOUNTS

Government agencies, law-enforcement organizations, emergency organizations, news organizations, businesses, and other institutions may be required to undergo additional verification. SafeRoute may request official identification, organizational documentation, authorization letters, identification cards, or other information reasonably necessary to verify an organization or its authorized representative. Verification does not mean that SafeRoute endorses, guarantees, or accepts responsibility for every statement made by a verified account. Users must not falsely represent themselves as an official organization or representative.

5. USER-GENERATED CONTENT

SafeRoute allows users to submit and publish content, including:

  • Incident reports
  • Text
  • Images
  • Videos
  • Audio
  • Livestreams
  • Comments
  • Locations
  • Safety observations
  • Other information submitted through the Service

You retain ownership of content that you own and lawfully submit to SafeRoute. However, by submitting content, you grant SafeRoute a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, sublicensable license to host, store, reproduce, process, display, distribute, modify as reasonably necessary for technical purposes, and make that content available through the Service. This license exists only to the extent reasonably necessary to operate, maintain, improve, secure, promote, and provide the SafeRoute Service, subject to our Privacy Policy and applicable law.

6. RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR CONTENT

You are solely responsible for the content you submit. You represent that:

  • You have the necessary rights to submit the content;
  • Your content does not knowingly violate applicable law;
  • Your content does not knowingly infringe another person's intellectual-property rights;
  • Your content does not unlawfully expose another person's private information;
  • Your content does not deliberately mislead users about a safety incident;
  • Your content complies with our Community Guidelines.

SafeRoute does not guarantee that user-generated content is accurate, complete, current, or independently verified.

7. INCIDENT REPORTING

SafeRoute is designed to facilitate the sharing of safety information. When submitting an incident, you should provide information honestly and responsibly. Where possible, indicate whether information was:

  • Personally witnessed;
  • Reported to you by another person;
  • Obtained from an official source; or
  • Otherwise unverified.

You must not knowingly fabricate an incident, manipulate its location, deliberately falsify its timing, or submit coordinated false reports. SafeRoute may label, limit, delay, remove, or otherwise modify the visibility of reports based on available verification signals.

8. NO GUARANTEE OF INCIDENT ACCURACY

SafeRoute does not guarantee that information appearing on the platform is accurate, complete, timely, or independently verified. AI systems, community verification, automated systems, official sources, and other signals may be used to assess information. A report being displayed, verified, ranked, or given a verification indicator does not necessarily mean that SafeRoute independently confirms every fact contained in that report. Users should exercise appropriate judgment before relying on information displayed on SafeRoute.

9. AI SYSTEMS

SafeRoute may use artificial intelligence and automated technologies to assist with:

  • Incident verification;
  • Duplicate detection;
  • Spam detection;
  • Suspicious activity detection;
  • Content moderation;
  • Safety classification;
  • Recommendation and ranking;
  • Risk assessment;
  • Other platform functions.

AI-generated or AI-assisted results may contain errors. You should not treat an AI-generated result as a substitute for professional, emergency, law-enforcement, medical, or other authoritative advice. SafeRoute may modify or discontinue AI features at any time.

10. SAFETY INFORMATION IS NOT EMERGENCY SERVICE

SafeRoute is not a replacement for emergency services, police, fire services, ambulance services, medical professionals, security agencies, or other authorities. SafeRoute does not guarantee that:

  • Emergency services will receive a report;
  • Authorities will respond to a report;
  • A reported incident will be resolved;
  • A reported location is safe;
  • A particular route is safe;
  • An alert will reach every relevant user;
  • The Service will operate continuously.

In an emergency, contact the appropriate emergency service or authority available in your location.

11. LOCATION SERVICES

Some SafeRoute features require or benefit from location information. You may control location permissions through your device settings and the permissions provided by SafeRoute. Location information may be used to provide features such as:

  • Nearby incident information;
  • Location-based alerts;
  • Safety maps;
  • Incident submission;
  • Neighborhood intelligence;
  • Safety-circle functionality;
  • Other location-based features.

The collection, use, storage, sharing, retention, and deletion of personal information are governed by our Privacy Policy and applicable data-protection laws.

12. LIVESTREAMING

SafeRoute may allow users to broadcast live video and/or audio to other users. You are responsible for everything you broadcast. You must not use livestreaming to:

  • Threaten or encourage violence;
  • Facilitate criminal activity;
  • Harass or intimidate individuals;
  • Broadcast private information in a harmful manner;
  • Sexually exploit or abuse another person;
  • Broadcast prohibited content;
  • Deliberately spread dangerous misinformation;
  • Evade SafeRoute moderation or safety controls.

SafeRoute may interrupt, restrict, remove, or terminate a livestream where necessary to enforce these Terms, our Community Guidelines, applicable law, or to protect users. SafeRoute does not guarantee uninterrupted livestreaming.

13. PROHIBITED USE

You must not use SafeRoute to:

  • Commit or facilitate illegal activity;
  • Threaten another person;
  • Encourage violence;
  • Harass or bully users;
  • Impersonate individuals or organizations;
  • Spread knowingly false safety information;
  • Manipulate incident verification;
  • Create coordinated fake reports;
  • Create fraudulent accounts;
  • Circumvent account restrictions;
  • Scrape or collect information from SafeRoute without authorization;
  • Reverse engineer the Service except where permitted by law;
  • Introduce malicious code or software;
  • Interfere with platform operations;
  • Attempt unauthorized access to accounts or systems;
  • Abuse reporting, verification, or moderation systems;
  • Use SafeRoute to expose someone to unnecessary danger.

14. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

SafeRoute Africa and its licensors own or control the intellectual property associated with the Service, including, where applicable:

  • Software
  • Designs
  • Logos
  • Trademarks
  • Branding
  • User interfaces
  • Graphics
  • Original platform content
  • Documentation
  • Platform technology
  • AI systems
  • Databases
  • Other proprietary materials

Except where expressly permitted, you may not copy, reproduce, modify, distribute, sell, license, reverse engineer, or commercially exploit SafeRoute's intellectual property without written authorization. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of SafeRoute's intellectual property to you.

15. COPYRIGHT AND THIRD-PARTY CONTENT

You must not upload or distribute content that infringes another person's copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other legal rights. If you believe content on SafeRoute infringes your rights, you may report it through the appropriate reporting or support channel. SafeRoute may remove content where appropriate.

16. REPORTING AND MODERATION

SafeRoute may provide mechanisms for users to report:

  • Content;
  • Accounts;
  • Livestreams;
  • Safety concerns;
  • Harassment;
  • Misinformation;
  • Other violations.

SafeRoute may use automated systems, human review, or a combination of both to evaluate reports. Where appropriate, SafeRoute may:

  • Remove content;
  • Limit visibility;
  • Add warnings or labels;
  • Restrict features;
  • Suspend accounts;
  • Permanently terminate accounts;
  • Restrict livestreaming;
  • Restrict reporting;
  • Take other appropriate enforcement measures.

SafeRoute does not guarantee that every reported item will be removed.

17. BLOCKING USERS

SafeRoute may allow users to block other users. Blocking is intended to limit interactions between the accounts involved. SafeRoute may continue to process information associated with blocked accounts where necessary for safety, security, legal, moderation, fraud prevention, or other legitimate purposes.

18. ACCOUNT SUSPENSION OR TERMINATION

SafeRoute may suspend or terminate your account if:

  • You violate these Terms;
  • You violate the Community Guidelines;
  • You engage in fraudulent activity;
  • You misuse the platform;
  • Your activity creates a significant safety or security risk;
  • Your activity may expose SafeRoute or other users to legal liability;
  • Required by law or a lawful authority;
  • Your account is otherwise reasonably determined to be harmful to the Service or community.

Where appropriate, SafeRoute may provide notice or an opportunity to appeal. Serious violations may result in immediate action.

19. ACCOUNT DELETION

You may request deletion of your SafeRoute account through the account-deletion functionality provided within the application. Account deletion may result in the removal of your account and associated personal information, subject to information that SafeRoute is legally required or otherwise permitted to retain. Certain information may be retained for purposes including:

  • Legal compliance;
  • Fraud prevention;
  • Security;
  • Dispute resolution;
  • Enforcement of these Terms;
  • Protection of users;
  • Compliance with lawful requests.

Deletion of an account does not automatically cancel subscriptions or payment obligations handled through third-party platforms unless the applicable payment provider's cancellation process has also been completed.

20. SUBSCRIPTIONS AND PAYMENTS

SafeRoute may offer free and paid services, subscriptions, memberships, or other features. Pricing will be displayed before purchase. Where purchases are processed through Apple's App Store, Google Play, Paystack, Flutterwave, or another payment provider, the applicable provider's payment terms may also apply. Subscription pricing, billing periods, renewal terms, taxes, refunds, and cancellation procedures may vary depending on the payment platform and user's location. Where Apple In-App Purchase applies, purchases and subscriptions are subject to Apple's applicable terms and billing rules. Deleting the SafeRoute app does not necessarily cancel an active subscription. Users should cancel subscriptions through the applicable payment provider.

21. CHANGES TO PRICING AND SERVICES

SafeRoute may change, suspend, or discontinue features, pricing, plans, or services. Where required by applicable law, SafeRoute will provide appropriate notice of material changes. SafeRoute does not guarantee that any particular feature will remain available indefinitely.

22. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

SafeRoute may integrate with third-party services, including:

  • Mapping providers;
  • Payment processors;
  • Cloud infrastructure providers;
  • Authentication providers;
  • Analytics services;
  • AI providers;
  • Communication providers;
  • Other technology providers.

Third-party services may have their own terms and privacy policies. SafeRoute is not responsible for third-party services that it does not control.

23. PRIVACY

Your privacy is important to us. SafeRoute's collection and processing of personal information are governed by the SafeRoute Privacy Policy. The Privacy Policy explains:

  • What information we collect;
  • How information is collected;
  • Why information is used;
  • How information may be shared;
  • Location-data practices;
  • Data retention;
  • Data deletion;
  • User privacy rights;
  • Contact and complaint procedures.

By using SafeRoute, you acknowledge that your information may be processed in accordance with the Privacy Policy and applicable data-protection laws.

24. DATA PROTECTION

SafeRoute intends to process personal information in accordance with applicable data-protection requirements, including the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and applicable regulatory requirements. Where applicable, users may have rights relating to access, correction, deletion, objection, restriction, consent withdrawal, and other rights provided by applicable law. Nothing in these Terms limits any mandatory rights available to you under applicable law.

25. USER SAFETY AND PLATFORM LIMITATIONS

SafeRoute is a technology platform. Although we work to improve the reliability and safety of the Service, we cannot guarantee that:

  • Every incident will be detected;
  • Every report will be accurate;
  • Every dangerous event will appear on the platform;
  • Every alert will be delivered;
  • Every location will be correctly identified;
  • The platform will always be available;
  • The platform will prevent crime, injury, loss, or other harm.

You remain responsible for making appropriate decisions concerning your personal safety.

26. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, SafeRoute is provided on an “as available” and “as is” basis. SafeRoute does not guarantee that the Service will always be:

  • Accurate;
  • Complete;
  • Available;
  • Secure;
  • Uninterrupted;
  • Error-free;
  • Timely.

You use the Service at your own discretion and risk. Nothing in these Terms excludes a warranty or protection that cannot legally be excluded under applicable law.

27. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, SafeRoute and its directors, officers, employees, contractors, affiliates, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive losses arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service. This includes losses arising from reliance on user-generated reports, alerts, maps, livestreams, AI-generated information, community verification, or other information available through SafeRoute. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited.

28. INDEMNIFICATION

To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless SafeRoute Africa, its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, contractors, and service providers from claims, losses, liabilities, damages, and expenses arising from:

  • Your violation of these Terms;
  • Your violation of the Community Guidelines;
  • Your unlawful conduct;
  • Your content;
  • Your infringement of another person's rights;
  • Your misuse of the Service.

29. SECURITY

We take reasonable measures to protect the Service and information entrusted to us. However, no online service can guarantee absolute security. You acknowledge that internet transmissions and digital systems may carry risks, including unauthorized access, technical failures, and security incidents. You should protect your account credentials and notify SafeRoute promptly if you suspect unauthorized access.

30. CHANGES TO THESE TERMS

SafeRoute may update these Terms from time to time. When material changes are made, SafeRoute may provide notice through the application, website, email, or another appropriate method. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of updated Terms constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms, to the extent permitted by law.

31. GOVERNING LAW

These Terms shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, except where applicable law requires otherwise. Nothing in this section removes any mandatory consumer or legal protections that apply to you in your jurisdiction.

32. DISPUTE RESOLUTION

If you have a dispute with SafeRoute, we encourage you to contact us first so that we can attempt to resolve the issue informally. Where a dispute cannot be resolved informally, it may be submitted to the appropriate courts or dispute-resolution mechanism with jurisdiction under applicable Nigerian law. Nothing in these Terms prevents either party from seeking urgent legal or injunctive relief where appropriate.

33. SEVERABILITY

If any provision of these Terms is determined to be invalid, unlawful, or unenforceable, that provision shall be interpreted or modified to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will continue in effect.

34. NO WAIVER

A failure by SafeRoute to enforce any provision of these Terms does not constitute a waiver of its right to enforce that provision later.

35. ENTIRE AGREEMENT

These Terms, together with the SafeRoute Privacy Policy, Community Guidelines, and any additional terms applicable to particular features or services, constitute the agreement between you and SafeRoute regarding your use of the Service. Where there is a conflict between these Terms and a specific feature's terms, the specific terms may apply to that feature to the extent stated.

By selecting “I Agree,” creating an account, accessing, or using SafeRoute Africa, you confirm that:

  • You have read these Terms;
  • You understand these Terms;
  • You agree to comply with these Terms;
  • You agree to comply with the SafeRoute Community Guidelines;
  • You acknowledge the SafeRoute Privacy Policy;
  • You understand that SafeRoute information may not always be accurate or complete;
  • You understand that SafeRoute is not a replacement for emergency services or professional advice.
